Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 2024 Vegamovies: Release Date, Review
There will be more than one person who goes into the cinema expecting an epic journey full of guitars that breathe fire, albino soldiers who spray their mouths with bevelled lines, cars, motorbikes, trucks and explosions. And they will be absolutely right, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” checks all these points, but it sets itself apart from the rest. It is a film that decides to put its foot on the brake pedal, grab a map, explore the terrain and the characters that director George Miller has been creating for more than forty years.
“Furiosa” combines the narrative erraticism of “Mad Max” , the restraint and brilliance of “Mad Max: The Road Warrior” , the world-building of “Mad Max: Beyond The Thunderdome” and the over-the-top action of “Mad Max: Fury Road”. It takes it all in and expands it, although losing some intensity in each of these aspects. The drawback? None, because this film shines for a new aspect that was hardly explored in its predecessors: the characters.
Charlize Theron’s Furiosa, tough, confident, capable and relentless, becomes a fragile, empathetic and wild Anya Taylor-Joy. Her acting skills transform a story of revenge into a narrative about growth and fortitude in which the search for meaning prevails, against the insane nihilism of the world of “Mad Max” . To face her is Dementus, Chris Hemsworth, a ruthless madman who has fun with chaos and violence. Roles that consolidate Anya as the acting monument that she already is and demonstrate that, when we forget that Chris is too handsome, she can give worthy and deep performances. Both magnetic, both essential to give physicality to this new direction in the saga where philosophy and politics are the new kings of the desert.
However, let's not forget that "Mad Max" is an unavoidable aesthetic, which continues to absorb all the attention of whoever lays eyes on it, and it is also chases, lots of chases. You can't go back to what "Fury Road" did, but every time a character gets behind the wheel in "Furiosa" it's a promise that the spectacle is on the way. It's a shame that the CGI slacks off when fire and clouds of dust fill the screen, but that doesn't distract from the crazy action captured sublimely by George Miller.
There are other obstacles that keep the film from perfection, such as its erratic pace, the wait that fans have endured, marketing and being the prequel to one of the best action movies in history. Nevertheless, “Furiosa” is as big as “Mad Max” and represents a step forward for the saga. Let's hope that George Miller recovers from the box office of these first few weeks and doesn't delay in expanding his universe, because, if he manages to unite the character development explored in this installment with what he had already built previously, there is no doubt that he will win the throne of action cinema.
